Matteo Gilfillan & Associates Inc. provides Canadian Building and Fire Code consulting services in the fields of fire protection and life safety.  Our staff have an in-depth understanding of National and Provincial Building and Fire Code requirements.  We apply this understanding to provide a high level of service to architects, engineers, developers, private owners, and the local authorities.

We are focused on providing quality Code consulting services to our clients through understanding the needs of the project and the client, having expert knowledge of the Code requirements and their intent, and by maintaining a professional approach with both clients and authorities

  • President

    Matteo Gilfillan is the President and founder of MGA. Through his extensive experience in the fire and life safety industry since 2002, Matteo obtained a Licensed Engineering Technologist (LET) designation with the Professional Engineers of Ontario to practice professional engineering in fire and life safety studies and reporting related to Building and Fire Codes and Standards. Matteo is also a Certified Engineering Technologist (C.E.T.), a NFPA Certified Fire Protection Specialist (CFPS), and is a Qualified Designer holding a Building Code Identification Number (BCIN).

    Matteo is actively involved in the development of the National and Ontario Building and Fire Codes as well as fire and life safety Standards and lectures extensively on Building and Fire Codes, life safety, and Fire Safety Plan training. Matteo is the past President of the Canadian Fire Safety Association (CFSA) and is an active member of various industry associations.

    Matteo is a graduate from the Fire Protection Engineering Technology program at Seneca College and holds a Bachelor of Applied Science degree from Bemidji State University in Minnesota.

  • Director, Engineering

    Mark Harrop has over 15 years of experience in fire and life safety consulting, working on a variety of projects providing building and fire code consulting on building designs and concepts, preparing alternative solution proposals, and conducting building inspections / audits, with a focus on industrial projects and the storage and use of hazardous materials.

    Mark is a former member of NFPA 30B Technical Committee on Aerosol Products, and former alternate member of the SFPE Standards – Making Committee on Calculating Fire Exposure to Structures. Mark served for several years on the Board of Directors of the now defunct Ontario Industrial Fire Protection Association.

  • Director, Project Management

    David Vickers is the Director of Project Management at MGA. David has been providing Code consulting services in the Fire and Life Safety industry since 2001. He is an expert on the requirements of the Ontario and National Fire and Building Codes.

    David was the former President of the Society of Fire Protection Engineers, Southern Ontario Chapter (SFPE), and a member of the (SFPE) USA National Chapter of the Canadian Fire Safety Association (CFSA).

    David is a graduate from the Fire Protection Technology program at Seneca College and holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Trent University.
